Geekdom Madness 2017: Last Dreams/Sub Stories

Welcome to Geekdom Madness 2017! I'd like to remind everyone that this is explicitly a popularity contest. This is not who would win in a fight, but who YOU - the reader - like better.

Our first matches: two Final Protagonists and some underground ladies.

Let's meet the combatants:

MATCH 1: Last Dreams

TERRA BRANFORD

The child of a human and an Esper, Terra was kidnapped by the evil Emperor Gesthal as an infant and trained as a weapon using her innate magical abilities. Her mind is later severely damaged due to mind-control experiments conducted by Imperial General Kefka Palazzo, and her will is only returned to her after a mission to retrieve a frozen Esper for the Empire goes south and leaves her the only survivor - with a bad case of amnesia to boot. Fortunately, she is discovered by a resistance group known as The Returners and she eventually joins their fight to bring the Empire down.

Pros:
* Is a powerful sorceress due to her family.
* Assertive and determined.
* Fond of children and Moogles.

Cons:
* Understandably suspicious of anyone asking her to utilize her powers.
* Occasionally prone to dispair.
* Unwillingly forced to participate in a number of the Empire's atrocities.

ZIDANE TRIBAL

While originally a grown replacement for a failed prototype of a world-ending being, Zidane was kidnapped by said first failed prototype as an infant and abandoned in the world of Gaia in a fit of jealousy. Little Zidane was eventually found by Baku, the leader of the Tantalus group; a thieves guild that masquerades/moonlights as a theatre troupe. Zidane grew up in this swashbuckling life, never knowing anything of his original purpose, until his mission to kidnap the Princess of Alexandria starts taking some unexpected turns.

Pros:
* Eternally Optimistic (except for that one time...)
* Very agile and skilled with daggars and double-ended swords.
* Always willing to help someone in need (especially if that someone is a damsel).

Cons:
* Was still originally grown for destruction.
* Still more than willing to participate in a myriad of illegal activities.
* A shameless and persistent flirt.

MATCH 2: Sub Stories

TORIEL

Just a silly little lady who worries too much. A denizen of the Underground beneath Mt. Ebott, where the race of monsters have survived after the war between humans and monsters, she is the caretaker of the Ruins and lives in relative solitude. That is, until a human child falls down into her domain.

Pros:
* A loving mother.
* Proficient in Fire Magic
* Knows best for you.

Cons:
* Can be over-protective.
* Suspiciously secretive about her past and her future plans.
* Capable of holding a nasty grudge.

UNDYNE

Once a rough and tumble kid with anger issues, Undyne made the foolish mistake of picking a fight with the King of Monsters. Rather than utterly destroy her, the King decided to train her to be better than him. Now, she is the captain of the Royal Guard who dispenses justice to any wrongdoer in the underground - and take the SOUL of any human unlucky enough to cross her path.

Pros:
* Proficient with energy spears.
* Has probably more Determination than any monster.
* Likes to smile.

Cons:
* Is willing to kill any human she comes across - regardless of age.
* Can be loud and obnoxious
* Is a terrible cook.

Final Verdict
Jeez Louise, it gets tougher to do these bios without spoilers every year. I hope I've kept Undertale spoilers to a bare minimum (and even that's more than I'd like to tell newbies), but I regrettably completely blew the backstories of Final Fantasy VI and IX. Sorry. In any case, I love all of these characters. Hope you do too. Interested in seeing who comes out on top.

As always, make sure you're viewing the WEB version of the site and vote in the polls (remember, there are two now) on the right-hand side of the screen. Polls close Friday at 5:00 p.m., and results posted on Saturday. Feel free to discuss your picks in the comments below.
